Interested in learning more about life as an Air Georgian co-op student? Meet Nancy Kihoro. Nancy joined our team as a Safety Co-op Student this summer and was known around Air Georgian for brightening up the office with her smile! Nancy is currently attending Georgian College in the Aviation Management Program. She applied to Air Georgian to learn more about our diverse and dynamic operations.
We’re proud to support students in their program and careers, through our co-op partnerships with post-secondary schools. These students are wonderful additions to our team and the partnership allows students the opportunity to develop skills learned in the classroom.
We recently spoke to Nancy to learn more about what her experience as an Air Georgian co-op student was like.
Air Georgian helped me prepare for my future career because I was able to put theory in to practice.
What was a typical working day as an Air Georgian co-op student like for you?
My work involved a wide range of tasks related to risk assessment, incidences, and other safety protocols and procedures in place here at Air Georgian. An important part of the job of the Safety Department is risk assessment and mitigation, and it was exciting to be involved in these processes! I also had a role in gathering and organizing information as was required. I had many different responsibilities and therefore really felt like an important part of the team. Every day was different!
Is there particular person at Air Georgian who has helped you in your co-op position?
The SMS Manager, Michale Balines, was great. He helped me in my projects and other departmental duties, and always remained calm and cheerful even when training me. Nausheen (Air Georgian Safety Coordinator) also held my hand and walked with me through the process. Everyone worked to ensure I was comfortable in my co-op position!
How did your experience as an Air Georgian co-op student help with your future career aspirations?
Air Georgian is a great place to learn. There are a variety of duties and tasks assigned to students, meaning you have the opportunity to gain a lot of experience. The staff are open, warm, and always there for the students. Air Georgian helped me to prepare for my future career because I was able to put theory in to practice. I interacted with different people in the industry who deposited a lot of knowledge and skills in me.
What are your future career aspirations?
I am looking forward to advancing my career through education and experience. I am currently looking to climb up the ladder of aviation management but am also open to different fields in the industry! Completing a co-op is a great way to learn more about the different positions available in aviation, and to learn what aspects of the industry interest you most.
Nancy was a great addition to our team this past summer. She was enthusiastic, and always looking to help out. We wish Nancy all the best in her future career endeavours!
